Using Paint

Room 10 have worked hard this week with their inquiry unit. They have created a glossary for the different bike parts, inserted a bike and labeled it correctly and have drawn their own bike in paint.

Wheels Day in 2008!

On Tuesday the 19th of August, room 10 had their own wheels day. Some people bought bikes and scooters. Victoria and Kane bought roller blades. I didn't bring anything so I had to make sure people didn't go past the courts. Everyone road around the courts and by Mr Mitchell's shed. We took photos to compare the different types of wheels we bought today with photos taken in the 1960s. By Rebecca Smith

Wheels Day in the 1960's!

Room 10 are researching the history of Marshall Laing Primary right back to the 1960s!

Have a look at one of the very first wheels day in the 1960s. Room 10 will be having their own wheels day this week and taking photos to compare.

Marshall Laing Primary School in the PAST!

On Tuesday the 5th of August the middle school got a surprise - Mr Dawkins came to talk to us about what Marshall Laing Primary School was like in the past.

First he talked about his childhood and about becoming a teacher. Did you know that when you got one spelling word wrong you would get whipped on the hand? There were 3 big boys who were in a junior class because they weren’t very clever.

Behind room 10 and 9 there was another classroom. If you were naughty sometimes you had to go under your desk and you were smacked.

There was also a lady teacher and another very bad teacher. She was so scared of him, that one day she saw him and she ran under the table to hide.

Lastly if you had dirty finger nails you would also get in big trouble.

The past of Marshall Laing

On Tuesday Mr Dawkins came to our school to tell us about the past of Marshall Laing.

He told us if someone bought a toy to school the teacher would put it in a vice and make the child watch his toy get squished and then give it back to them.

Mr Dawkins told us he taught the senior syndicate and first started at this School in 1975.

In the year 1975 the girls had to wear a dress or skirt.

If they were really bad the teacher would tell them to put their head under their desk and whack them and their head would hit the desk.

On Tuesday the 5th of August Mr. Dawkins came to speak to the middle school about the past at MLPS. Mr. Dawkins was a senior teacher and first started at MLPS in 1975.

The children where very scared of the teachers because they would strap the children for dirty nails or being naughty or even if they got a spelling mistake.

Under the ground there was a little house in case there was a war in New Zealand the children would go down to the house and hide.

If the children did one mistake they would get one strap, if they made two mistakes they would get two straps if they made three mistakes or more they’d get three straps.

What was the school like in 1962?

Room 10 have been thinking! Room 10 have created a class and individual brainstorms to show what they think Marshall Laing may have been like in 1962? What do you think?

In the Holiday I play on my computer. The Game was car bomb the city and I play lots of Games. Yesterday my friend came to my house. I played with Enoch at lunch.

Dunedin Adventure

In the holidays I went to Dunedin with my mum and dad and my sisters. The hotel we stayed in was very big and it had a very big swimming pool.

Sky city cinemas

In the holidays I went to the sky city cinemas.

I watched Ironman and Nims Island.

After that I went to MacDonald’s and got a

Pokemon toy and then I went home and played

Poptropica on the computer.

Going to Australia

In the holidays I went to the Gold Coast and Canberra it was fantastic.

I went to all the theme parks. I saw all the family koalas and Kangaroos.

My day in the Restaurant

In the holidays I went to the restaurant because it was my uncle’s birthday his birthday was on the 1 of May. He is 38 and he had chocolate cake and it was so yummy that I ate three slices of chocolate cake and the others only had one.

My Birthday!

On Thursday it was my party, I got lots of high school musical toys. I went out at 7.00pm to the shop. I had lots of different toys too. I had a chocolate cake with red icing. When I went too bed I was happy.

My Uncle

On Sunday my uncle Paul came to my house for a visit. We did not know that they where coming. He has 2 kid’s named Shay and Melanie. I had lots of fun I wish I can do it again.

My holiday in Fiji

In the holidays I went to Fiji. On the first day I went swimming at a 2 meter depth pool. A few days we went to Sunasalli. A Chinese man kicked us in the shallow part of the pool. When he looked back we started teasing him. Later on we sneaked into the deep end. When we got home we had 2 ice-blocks and one ice –cream. We also had 2 packet of chewing gum and 10 lollies.

YMCA Fun

In the holiday I went to a holiday programme YMCA my friend Joshua came as well and we had lots fun. We went to Motat together and the movie together but at the movie I did not give him any popcorn so he was very sad but not really because his other friend gave him some food. We watched Sydney White it was rated PGR. Me and Josh did not like it but other people did of course.
